Country Roads of Scotland

Scotland has some beautiful scenery, fascinating history, and very intriguing vernacular. Country Roads of Scotland investigates all these facets in detail.

Some of the sites described and pictured in this book are Edinburgh Castle, Holyroodhouse, St Andrews, Blair Castle, Loch Ness, the Orkney Islands, Eilean Donan Castle, the Isle of Skye, and Loch Lomond.

The book contains 200 excellent photos, many of them full-page. The book also includes just enough verbiage so you will know exactly what the pictures are showing and some of the history behind them.

If you’ve always wanted to visit Scotland, Country Roads of Scotland will tell and show you what you have in store. If you have been there already, this book will augment your memories and picture collection wonderfully.

Warriors

I liked that it told the point of view of different veterans from different services from different times of the war and that they were not all infantry. You got to see the war from all different points of view.

Cong Catchers

Thoroughly enjoyed the experiences of Lee. My husband also read it and reminisced and laughed, comparing his own memories of the 60 's. The book was well written and an easy read.

Classical Classic's

I'd always been interested in classical music, but wasn't raised in the culture and therefore found the genre intimidating to say the least. My entire exposure was limited to what was available on NPR. I'd browsed the racks at the CD store a million times, but was overwhelmed by the choices.
I'd finally decided to "research" the matter and ran across Mr. Nielsen's book. I bought it immediately and consumed it the first night and several times since. It truly "lifts the veil". It is written in a warm, friendly, easy to understand manner. I've shared the books with friends who are much more versed in the art form than I and they too found it an extremely valuable read (I wound up having to purchase a replacement copy!). If you love classical music or want to love classical music, this book is the logical first step. Thanks Mr. Nielsen for providing the clarity and insight I never thought I'd find.

Assault on Avignon

This is an easy read, and a page-turner. The prose are straight forward and the story is very interesting. The author writes about his WW II adventures in a journal format. I thought that I already knew a lot about how our planes flew and how we dropped our bombs, but I was quite wrong. Gene takes us through his extensive training, and then his more than thirty bombing runs. He was a bombardier, and he provides interesting details about the role of the navigator/bombardier, and the incredible effectiveness of the Norden Bomb-sight. His adventures after being shot down, working with the French underground, and eventually escaping his German captors before capturing an entire German company are compelling reading. The book is short, informative, and always interesting. I highly recommend it.
